Acts 2:38, the significance of Baptism

The question is not does one need baptism to be saved but does a person need obedience to be saved. The answer is yes.
The debate concerning the connection of Baptism to forgiveness or remission of sins is lost in the grammatical construction of the verse and the theological implications of works versus grace. Neither need present a challenge to the significance of Baptism for New Testament salvation. The Baptism signifies the believers union with Christ and discipleship to his teachings. So it is not the getting wet that removes sin but the obedience and adherence to Christ’s commands.
The question is asked: can you be a disciple without being baptized? I know we should never answer a question with a question but the question must be raised can a person be a disciple without being obedient?
